AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ORDINANCE WHICH REGULATES TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS AND HIGHWAY OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION, TO BE DESIGNATED SECTION 56.1, TO CONTROL THE CUTTING OF CORNERS BY DRIVING A VEHICLE FROM ONE STREET INTO ANOTHER ACROSS ANY SIDEWALK OR DRIVEWAY WITHOUT STOPPING; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND PROVIDING FOR LEGAL PUBLICATlON'HEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: I. That the following section be added to the ordinance which regulates traffic upon the public streets and highways of the City of San Marcos, Texas, said ordinance having been passed, approved and adopted on the 25th day of July, 1950, and further being set out in Volume 11, pages 364-396, of the Minutes of the City Council of the City of San Marcos: 'I Section 56.1 Vehicles shall not be driven over any sidewalk area or through any driveway, parking lot or business entrance at any intersection, in making either a right or left turn, except for the purpose of coming to a complete stop to obtain or render some service or make a sale or purchase. It is the intention of this section to prohibit corner cutting by driving a vehicle from one street into another across or through any sidewalk or driveway without stopping. II. That except as hereby amended said ordinance of July 25, 1950, shall otherwise remain unchanged. III. . The public welfare, health and safety being endangered due to the fact that the present ordinance regulating traffic upon the public streets and highways of the City of San Marcos does not pro- hibit the driving of a vehicle from one street into another across sidewalks or driveways without stopping; therefore, an emergency exists, requiring that the provisions of the Charter of the City of San Marcos which provide that ordinances be read on three several -1- c. ~'\
