Cost of the project to the City would remain practi- cally the same: an estimated $2,703,600. $75,600 of this figure would be paid to the Federal Govern- ment; the balance was ~n estimated figure for ac- quisition of right-of~way, purchase of land and con- struction of bridges and utilities. Total cost of the flood control plan was estimated at $7,824,000. Intent of the plan, Mr. Stanberry said, was to pre- serve the San Marcos River intact, from its beginning to its confluence with the Blanco. The engineer said they would like a statement from the Council in re- gard to the plan: either "yes" or "no". The Mayor said the cost was the g~eatest obstacle to acceptance of the plan. Dr. Craddock moved that the Council take the new proposal under advisement, after consult- ation with the City Manager, before replying to the Corps of Engineers. Councilman Smith seconded the motion and on roll call, the following vote was recorded: AYE: Craddock, Contre.ras, Dannelley, Flores, Serur, Smith, Zavesky NAY: None The,Mayor declared the motion carried. Warren Freudiger, E;"ecutive Director of the Housing Authority, gave the Council a pr'ogress report on the 125 units of public housing now under construction, and invited Councilmen to go on a tour of the. prolject. Mr. Freudiger said an additional 205 units were on reserve with the Housing Assistance Administration, for future application. A 27~acre tract would be re- quired as a building site for the 205-unit project, which would be 100% federally funded. Mr. Freudiger explained that Urban Renewal planners had estimated that 400 units would eventually be needed for re~ location of families in development of the current projects. Mr. Dannel1ey. moved approval of a Resolut- ion authorizing application for an additional 2SS housing units. Dr. Craddock seconded the motion and on roll call, the following. vote was recorded: AYE: Craddock, Contreras, Dannelley, Flores~ Serur, Smith, Zavesk) NAY: None The Mayor declared the Resolution Passed and Approved. Jim T. Brown, Executive Director of the Urban Renewal Agency, came before the Council to discuss the Neigh- borhood Development Program. He said the Council had given verbal approval of the plan, but a formal reso- lution was now required. The San Marcos Neighborhood Development Program .had been designated by Housing and Urban Development as "T.ex A-6", and would be developed in phases "A", "B", & "C", Mr, Brown stated.
