Box 725 <br />San Marcos, Texas 78666 <br /> <br />Dear Mayor Serur: <br /> <br />This has reference to your presentation before the Highway Commission on <br />May 5th, requesting the designation of a loop about the perimeter of San <br />Marcos and the construction of .an overpass at Broadway Street and Inter- <br />state. Highway 35, to serve the school complex located between Interstate <br />Highway 35 and State Highway 123. The Commission met in a later session <br />and discussed your two requests at length and instructed that I advise <br />you generally as follows. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(a) The Commission expressed willingness to designate the loop as a <br />secondary highway, if and when the official body of the City of <br />San Marcos and the Hays County Commissioners' Court furnish appro- <br />priate resolutions agreeing to acquire the necessary right of way <br />without cost to the state. <br /> <br />(b) The Commission expressed itself as being in favor of authorizing <br />the construction of a vehicular and pedestrian overpass at Inter- <br />state Highway 35 for Broadway Street, at such time as the City of <br />San Marcos has extended and paved to adequate standards the approaches <br />and connections to the city 'street system, both east and west of the <br />proposed overpass, or has advised the Commission through official <br />city resolution that they have funds for same and will proceed <br />immediately with. the construction of these connecting roadways, <br />and provided further that the Highway Department is successful in <br />securing approval of this project in the Federal "TOPICS" Program. <br /> <br />The Highway Commission also asked, that I express to you their appredation <br />for bringing these matte~s to their attention and particularly for the <br />able manner in which the presentation was made. <br /> <br />JCD:cb <br /> <br /> <br />',~ <br />:> <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />cc - See attached sheet <br /> <br />iv, r <br /> <br />
