I

I

I

TEXAS HIGffiIAY PATROL
P.O. Box 873
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS
Me,y 23, 1969

Mayor Ellis Serur a.m City Council
City of San JiflarCOS
San 11arcos, Texas

Gentlemen:

I would like to recommenCl that the Council consider the purchase of two (2)
additional receivers on your Police Department frequency for the use of the
'rexas Highway Patrol. I have five cars working this area and t"'o of them
are ",ithout communication with local officers after the Sheriff's 6ffice
closes at 5 PM on ~[6ekdays and anytime on Saturday and Sunday. It is not
feasible to shift these receivers from car to car due to the fact that there
is an overlap of shifts, and many times all units will be called to duty
at the same time.

I ",ould also like to suggest a cooperative project, between the City Council
and the County Commissioners Court, on the problem of inter-communication
bet",een the City Police Department aEtl the Sheriff's Office. There have
been numerous instances, just in the few months I have been here, ",hen City,
County and State officers could have aided each other much more effectively,
had there been instantaneous communication between the Departments. This
could be effected by installing a 37.260 receiver in the Police Department
dispatcher's office, a 155.13 receiver in the Sheriff's Office, and a 155.13
receiver in each of the Sheriff's units and Highway Patr",l units.

Certainly, with the increase in crime and traffic problems, complete and
co-ordinated efforts of all law enforcement agencies is needed. This cannot
be achieved without comminication between these agencies.

Respectfully,
/~ -') /) ..
/~~.;;::;~, f
/, ,Y .,<(Za-C<-<-c-/5::--
'-11.
