<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />93 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1978-29-R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, REQUESTING <br />THAT THE U. S. CONGRESSIONAL SUBCOMMITI'EE <br />ON AGRICULTURE AND RElATED AGENCIES OF <br />THE COMMITI'EE ON APPROPRIATIONS PROVIDE <br />FUNDS FOR P. L. 566, SMALL WATERSHED <br />PROJECTS (NAMELY FOR RE.'IUITION STRUCTIJRES <br />FOR THE UPPER SAN'MARCOS, TEXAS, WATERSHED); <br />AND URGING THAT ACTIJAL CONSTRUCTION ON THESE <br />FLOOD RETARDATION STRUCTURES BEGIN AT THE <br />EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in the recent past, the City of San Marcos, Texas, has suffered <br />great property losses, as well as the tragic loss of life, as the result <br />of rising water on the Sink, Willew Spring, and Purgatory Creeks; and, <br /> <br />WHErEAS, the City Council of the City of'San Marcos, Texas, is constantly <br />aware of the possible recurrence of other floods of eoual proportions; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of San Marcos, Texas, desires that all possible <br />actions and steps are taken as rapidly as possible to assure this commcmity <br />that it will not again be subjected to the ravages of fJ!ood waters from <br />these creeks; and, <br /> <br />WHErEAS, the City of San Mr;J'Cos,. Texas, is unable to provide all possible <br />relief from flooding because of its own limited resources; new, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF. THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. That this Council hereby requests that the Congress of the United <br />States provide funds for use by the Upper San Marcos Watershed Reclamation <br />and Flood Control District for the development of flood retardation <br />structllres for the Upper San Marcos Watershed, Hays County, Texas. <br /> <br />PART 2. That the City Council hereby urges that all possible steps be <br />taken to begin the actual construction of these flood prevention structures <br />at the earliest possible date. <br /> <br />PART 3.
