199 RESOLUTION NO. 1977-15-R A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLI- CATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR FUNDS FOR THE EMPLOYMENT BY THE CITY OF A TRAFFIC SAFETY COORDINATOR. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos recognizes the importance of I developing and implementing programs designed to reduce traffic col1ist6ns~,a~dd coordinating traffic safety projects within the community; and WHEREAS, the State Department of Highways and Public Transportatmoq,tthroygh its Office of Traffic Safety, has funds available in the form of one year grants to local communities for the purpose of improving and coordinating traffic safety programs; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes that these purposes can best be achieved through the employment of a traffic safety coordinator for the City of San Marcos; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City Manager of the City of San Marcos, be, and is, hereby III authorized to submit to the Office of Traffic Safety of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation a grant application requesting funds for the employment, for a one (1) year period, of a traffic safety coordinator for the City of San Marcos. Section 2. That in the event the grant is approved, the City Manager be, and is, hereby directed to conduct a management evaluation of the traffic safety program at the end of said one year term. Section 3.
