<br />I <br /> <br />162 I <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1977-51-R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, CALLING FOR ADDITIONAL <br />STUDY AND EVALUATION OF THE VOLUNTEER FIRE <br />FIGHTERS RELIEF AND RETIREMENT FUND AND EX- <br />EMPTING THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS FROM IMMEDIATE <br />PARTICIPATION IN THE FUND, SAID EXEMPTION BEING <br />REQUIRED BY THE LEGISLATIVE ACT ESTABLISHING <br />SAI D FUND. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a volunteer firefighter program is extremely beneficial <br />to the community; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a retirement and pension program for volunteer fire;hghters, <br />wi th other uenefi ts, has al ready been established by the City of <br />San Marcos; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Marcos desires further study of the new <br />Volunteer Fire Fighters Relief and Retirement Fund and further <br />evaluation of benefits which may be derived for its Volunteer <br />Fire Fighters from said Fund; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 411, enacted by the 65th Legislature, <br />established said Fund and provided that immediate participation <br />could be postponed only by andact of the local governing body <br />exempting itself from participation; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, election to participate at a future date may be made by <br />the local governing body by rescinding its exemption; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Part 1. That in accordance with Senate Bill No, 411, Section 2 (b), <br />the City Council of the City of San Marcos hereby elects to exempt <br />itself f~om the requirements of said act of the 65th Legislature. <br /> <br />Part 2. That the City Council of the City of San Marcos hereby <br />expresses its desire for further evaluation of the uenefits <br />available under this new state program, in order that San Marcos <br />Volunteer Fire Fighters might participate in the future. <br /> <br />Part 3.
