<br />45 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1976-32-R <br /> <br />A RESOLlITION OF TIlE CIIT COUNCIL OF TIlE CIIT OF <br />SAN MARCOS," TEXAS, REQUESTING TIlE SOIL CONSERVATION <br />SERVICE AND TIlE UPPER' SAN MARCOS. WATERSHED RECLAMA- <br />. TION AND FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT TO ARRIVE AT TIlE <br />RAPID RETENTION STRUCTIJRES FOR TIlE UPPER SAN MARCOS <br />WATERSHED, .AND URGING THAT ACI'UAL CONSTRUCTION ON <br />TIlESE FLOOD RETENTION" STRUCTURES BEGIN AT TIlE EARLIEST <br />POSSIBLE DATE. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in the recent past, the City of San Marcos has. suffered. great <br />property losses, as well as the tragic loss of. life, as the result of rising <br />water on the Sink, Willow Spring, and Purgatory Creeks; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Counci1.of the City of San Marcos.is constantly aware <br />of the possible recurrence of another flood of' such proportion; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of San Marcos. desires that all possible actions <br />and steps are taken as rapid1y"as possible to assure this cormmmity that it <br />will not again be subj ected to the ravages of flood waters from these creeks; <br />and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Marcos is unable to provide all. possible relief <br />from flooding because of its own limited resources; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY TIlE CIIT COUNCIL OF TIlE CIIT OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />PART 1. That the City CounciL hereby requests that the Soil Conservation <br />Service and the Upper San Marcos Watershed Reclamation.and Flood Control D:ls- <br />trict use every available aid. and source. of aid to' arrive at the rapid con.. <br />elusion of the studies and plans for the development of flood retention struc- <br />tures for the upper San Marcos Watershed. <br /> <br />PART 2. That the City Council. hereby urges that all possible steps bi~ <br />taken to begin the actual construction of these flood prevention structures <br />at the earliest possible date. <br /> <br />PART 3.
