<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />69 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1976-41-R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, REQUESTING AN EXCEPTION <br />TO THE POLICY OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGH- <br />WAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATmON AND THE FEDERAL <br />HIGHW;<llYcADMINISTRATION REQUIRING PARALLEL <br />PARKING ALONG ALL STREETS WITHIN THE URBAN <br />TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM THAT ARE TO BE IMPROVED <br />WITH FEDERAL AID SO AS TO ALLOW ANGLE PARKING <br />ON LBJ DRIVE FROM COMAL STREET TO COLORADO <br />STREET. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos,has <br />requested assistance through the State Department of Highways <br />and Public Transportation for the overlay of LBJ Drive from <br />Interstate Highway 35 North to Colorado Street; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, LBJ Drive is a street within the Urban Transporta- <br />tion System of the City of San Marcos; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State Department of High- <br />ways and Public Transportation and the Federal Highway Admin- <br />istration to require parallel parking on all streets within an <br />Urban Transportation System that are to be improved with their <br />funds; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, such a requirement would critically reduce the <br />number of currently available parking spaces from 109 to 54 in <br />the downtown area; now, there~6re, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS" <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. That the Federal Highway Administration and the <br />State Department of Highways and Public Transportation be, and <br />are hereby, requested to waive their requirement for parallel <br />parking along LBJ Drive from Comal Street to Colorado Street as <br />part of the grant application for overl~y work on LBJ Drive so <br />as to allow a continuation of the present angle parking system. <br /> <br />SECTION 2.
