<br />79 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 1974 ~ 60 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, ADOPTING <br />ARTICLE 1269m, REVISED CIVIL STATUTES OF TEXAS (1925) <br />IMPLEMENTING FIREMEN'S AND POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE IN <br />THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the electorate of the City of San Marcos, Texas, did accept by <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />referendum on April 30, 1974, civil service for City firemen and policemen; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Co~ncil, pursuant to Sec. 27a of Article 1269m, Revised <br /> <br />Civil Statutes of Texas (1925), desires to enact said Act as prescribed by law; <br /> <br />now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. That there be, and there is hereby, established a new section to <br /> <br />Chapter 2, Article III, Division 1 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of <br /> <br />San Marcos, Texas, numbered 2-30 and entitled "Adoption of Civil Service for <br /> <br />Firemen and Policemen" so as to read as follows: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Section 2-30. Adoption of Civil Service for Firemen and Policemen. <br />Pursuant to the provisions, terms, and conditions of Article l269m, <br />Revised Civil Statutes of Texas (1925), now and as hereinafter <br />amended, Civil Service for firemen and policemen within the employ <br />of the City of San Marcos, Texas is hereby established and approved. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. That ur!);ent necessity requires that this ordinance be passed as an <br /> <br />emergency measure for the immediate preservation of the public peace, property, <br /> <br />health, welfare, and safety of said City and its inhabitants; therefore, the <br /> <br />provision of the Charter of the City of San Marcos, Texas, which ordinarily <br /> <br />requires no ordinance shall become effective until the expiration of ten (10) <br /> <br />days following the date of its final passage be dispensed with.
