.

.

34

~
- of SanAlarCQs

POST OffiCE BOX 725jSAN MARCOS, TEXAS 78666/ AC 512 392-2417

I

PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD

MINUTES

DATE: October 25, 1973

MEMBERS PRESENT: Mrs. Helen Allen; Chairman, Mrs. Patty
Sullivan. Mrs. Rose Brooks, Mrs. Peggy
Byas, Mr. George Taack, and Warren Leddick.

The only item on the agenda was the discussion of
the use of City Park, and its use as a trailer park.

A motion was made by Mrs. Patty Sullivan and seconded
by George Taack, Jr.

The motion was to recommend to the City Council
that the City of San Marcos, effective June, 1974, no
longer operate City Park as a trailer park for trailer
rallies or overnight parking.

I

The board feels that since a private camp-ground will
be opening, the City should not compete with private
enterprise.

The board feels that the park should now be made
available exclusively for the citizens of San Marcos for
a further expanded Park and Recreation Program.

The board feels that the City should not make a large
investment to'renovate the facilities, such as electrical
and sewer hook-up repairs, for out of town use. The
present electrical system is no longer capable of ha.ndling
large rallies without a complete overhaul. A number of the
electrical outlets need replacing if we are going to con-
tinue to operate.

The board feels that if the City Council decides
to continue to use the park for trailers, due to a minority
interest group, that funds from ~ther .ources be sought to
cover the cost of making the necessary improvements needed.

tI
