<br />1\1inutes for the Jiieeting of the <br /> <br />Environmental Advisory Committee <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The meeting of the Environmental Advisory COPlmittee for the city <br /> <br />council of San Marcos, Texas met Thursday, April 6, 1972 in council <br /> <br />chambers in 'city hall. j',lembers present were Dr. Glenn Longley, <br /> <br />Dr. T.R. Buie, Dr. A. J. Tickle, Hrs. Kay Buckner, Mr. Hark Gresham. <br />The meeting was called to order, and the members were introduced to <br />the visitors. The minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br />r~. Gresham gave a report on the waste water treatment which is the <br /> <br />only pollution control in San Marcos. the report disclosed that the <br />old and new sewage plants do adequate jobs and operate below the <br /> <br />re'luirements of the Texas '{ater Quality Board. <br />There 'Nas >3 discussion of hiring licensed. and trained employees to <br /> <br />operate the t'No plants and run laboratory tests. The pay scales for <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />all city employees are to be raise~ 'N!hich will help in the operation <br />o f the sewa!!le plants by qualified personel. <br />Durinp; a discussion of the widening of Loop 82 by the old fish <br /> <br />Hatchery , Mr. Gresham said that the decision to use the hatchery <br />side instead of the Sewell Park side was malie by UniveBsity officials. <br /> <br />Since the right-of-way includes several large aypress trees and parts <br /> <br />of some ponds used by the University biology classes, Dr. Longley felt <br />some complaints should by malte. He moved to recornmemdl to the city <br /> <br />council that it do everythinp; in it's power to tee that the esthetics <br />fh'-' <br />0~1oop 82 area b~ observed to the utmost. Dr. Buie seconded/and <br />the motion passed unanimously. Dr. Longl~y and ttrs. Buckner pla~ <br />to attend the next city council meeting to pee sent this recommendation. <br />In response to Dr. Tickle I s question about deve10pmtmts at Hughson <br />I Slaughtering Plant, l.\r. Gresham s8id that the? (,.'."y had made arrangements <br />to dig a specilll pit at the sanitary land fill to bufY the paunch <br /> <br />r~i I <br /> <br />
