The Contractor will furnish each residential unit with one new cart. The size of the cart will be 96 gallons, 68 gallons or 35 gallons (these capacities are approximate). The Contractor will provide customers with new smaller carts upon request of the customer. The Contractor will not substitute used carts during the term of this Contract for those originally provided to customers. If a customer's cart is in need of replacement, however, the Contractor may replace the cart with a new or like new cart if the cart is in a condition acceptable to the Director. Residents have the option to purchase an additional 96 gallon cart for $95 + tax from Contractor at a location in San Marcos, Texas. Delivery of an additional purchased cart shall be made available by Contractor for a fee not to exceed $75.00. Residents also have the option to purchase a new 96 gallon cart over a 6 month period. Residents also have the option to rent the cart for $5 per month. B. Newly Annexed Areas: For residential units in portions of the contract area that have been newly annexed to the City, the customers will have the choice of immediately switching to the Contractor, or continuing to use solid waste collection contractors other than the Contractor for a period of two (2) years after the annexation. For such areas, the City will notify the Contractor of the address of residential units to add for services under this Contract during the two year period. After the two year period, the Contractor will provide services under this Contract for all residential units in such areas. C. The Contractor will propose and implement measures to prevent spillage with the mode of collection (automated/semi-automated) used by the Contractor (See section 1.4.1, Quality). D. The cost for this service will be included in the cost per month per residential unit for basic residential service. E. At a customer's request, the Contractor will provide additional carts for the customer's use and the cost for this service will be $5.00 per month in addition to the cost per month for basic residential service. 1.3.2 Residential Unit Recyclable Materials - Dual Stream Collection A. The Contractor will perform dual stream collection of the following recyclable materials from each residential unit in the contract area one (1) time per week on the same day as the regular scheduled solid waste collection until the later of March 31, 2009 or within 30 days of availability and assurance that a suitable facility is open to accept and process this recycling material within a 50 mile radius of San Marcos : Aluminum beverage cans Ferrous cans Clear glass Colored glass Newsprint/magazines Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) #'s 1 and 2 Direct mail advertisements With the Director's approval, the Contractor will have the right to add or delete material types from time to time based upon the commercial markets for the materials.
