DECLARATION OF LOCAL EMERGENCY BY PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, a hurricane has entered the Gulf of Mexico and is predicted to travel through <br />Central Texas whereby heavy rains and high winds will present an imminent threat of <br />widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property from flood, wind, storm, and <br />other public calamity resulting from the storm, which requires emergency action; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 418.108 of the Texas Government Code and Section 26.007 of the Code of <br />Ordinances of the City of San Marcos authorize the Mayor of the City of San Marcos, as the <br />presiding officer of the governing body of a political subdivision, to declare a local state of <br />disaster; and <br />WHEREAS, I, as the Mayor of the City of San Marcos, have determined that extraordinary <br />measures must be taken to prevent the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, I believe that the City of San Marcos's Emergency Management Plan should be <br />activated; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, AS THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, HEREBY <br />PROCLAIM AND DECLARE: <br />Section 1. That a state of emergency exists for the City of San Marcos. <br />Section 2. That the City's emergency disaster plan has been implemented. <br />Section 3. That this declaration of local disaster takes effect immediately and remains in effect <br />for the next seven days, unless terminated earlier or extended by the San Marcos City Council. <br />Section 4. That this declaration directs the City Manager to activate the recovery and <br />rehabilitation aspects of all applicable local or interjurisdictional emergency management plans; <br />authorizes the furnishing of all aid and assistance, as deemed necessary or desirable by those <br />administering the plans, and activates the preparedness and response aspects of the plans. <br />Section 5.
