25. RESOLUTION NO. 2002- 2 R A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, ACCEPTING AND APPROVING THE TERMS OF MINUTE ORDER 108745 OF THE TEXAS TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FOR THE WONDER WORLD DRIVE (FM 3407) EXTENSION PROJECT; REQUESTING PRIORITY 2 STATUS FOR THIS PROJECT; COMMITTING TO CITY PARTICIPATION IN FUNDING FOR THE PROJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. RECITALS: 1. The City wishes to accept al;d approve the terms of Texas Transportation Commission Minute Order 108745 (the "Minute Order") pertaining to the Wonder World Drive Extension Project (the "Project") in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. 2. The City wishes to approve and accept the Minute Order to facilitate the Project, which consists of the extension of Wonder World Drive (FM 3407) from Hunter Road (FM 2439) to Ranch Road 12 (RM 12). BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: PART 1. The terms and conditions of the Minute Order are approved and accepted. PART 2. The City confirms its request that the Project be assigned Priority 2 status by the Texas Department of Transportation, for the following reasons: . Corridor preservation - Several tracts ofland along the proposed alignment of the Project are for sale and are subject to development in a manner that would be detrimental to the development and completion of the Project . Congestion relief - The bulk of traffic between the IH-35 area and the area west of San Marcos currently uses RM 12, which traverses the downtown area of San Marcos; the Project would provide an alternative route for this traffic . The City of San Marcos is interested in a system to move people more efficiently, and the Project would help accomplish this goal PART 3. The City confirms that it is prepared to commit to significant local participation in the funding needed for the Project, including the cost of preliminary engineering, environmental assessment and public involvement processes, environmental mitigation and remediation, and the provision of needed right-of-way.
