RESOLUTION 2414- 12 7R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE CENT TEXAS <br />SUSTAINABILITY CONSORTIUM; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR'S <br />EXECUTION OF THE LETTER OF INTENT EXPRESSING THE CITY'S <br />SUPPORT OF THE CONSORTIUM ON BEHALF OF THE CITY AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE, <br />1. In June of 2009, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development <br />( "HUD ") joined with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ( "EPA ") and the U.S. <br />Department of Transportation ( "DDT ") to improve access to the nation's affordable <br />housing, provide more transportation options and lower transportation costs while <br />protecting the environment in communities nationwide. <br />2. Congress has provided a total of $1 50,000.000.00 to fund the HUD <br />Sustainable Communities Initiative ( "SCI ") grant in order to encourage regional planning <br />efforts that integrate housing and transportation decisions and increase State, regional and <br />local capacity to incorporate livability, sustainability and social equity principles into land <br />use and zoning. Approximately $1 00,000,000.00 of this amount is available to encourage <br />metropolitan regions to develop integrated regional plans that articulate a vision for <br />growth that federal housing, transportation and other federal investments can support. <br />3. The City wishes to collaborate with the Capital Area Council of <br />Governments, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, Envision Central <br />Texas, the City of Austin and the City of Round Rock in forming a consortium dedicated <br />to seeking funds through a Regional Sustainability Planning Grant from HUD. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The attached City of San Marcos Central Texas Sustainability Consortium <br />Letter of Intent is approved. <br />PART 2. The Mayor, Susan Narvaiz, is authorized to execute the Letter of Intent on <br />behalf of the City. <br />PART 3. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately from and <br />after its passage. <br />ADOPTED this the 17th day of August, 2010 <br />1 <br />
