The Council adjourned into Executive Session at 6:01 p.m. Mayor Narvaiz announced the Council would reconvene at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration adoption or direction to Staff on matters discussed in Executive Session. Mr. O'Leary stated the Council provided direction for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce contracts regarding the economic and tourism development. He stated the Council also gave direction to Staff regarding a downtown project. Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Pledge of Allegiance, which was lead by the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Teachers of the Year. Mayor Narvaiz introduced the 30-Minute Citizen Comment. 1) Dianne Wassenich stated she wished to speak on Item 29, a discussion regarding legislative issues. She stated she feels Senate Bill 1858 is the worst Bill for San Marcos water quality. She stated if this Bill is adopted, it will not allow the City to have water quality authority. She encouraged the Council to contact Representatives to help slow this Bill down. She stated she supports the Council regulating parking in yards. She stated she feels parking in front yards harms property values. 2) Sherri Bilson thanked Council Member Taylor for helping with the Castle Forest Neighborhood Cleanup on May 14, 2005. She also encouraged the Council to change their Regular Meeting scheduled for August 2, 2005, to another date. She stated this would allow participation in the Neighborhood National Night Out. Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Staff Report. 1) Mr. O'Leary stated there will be a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Rio Vista Swimming Pool on May 28, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. 2) Mr. O'Leary stated on Saturday, May 21, 2005, there will be several events in San Marcos: Special Olympics, Texas Natural Western Swing Festival, Welcome Home Troops Ceremony and the Commemorative Air Show. Mayor Narvaiz introduced the City Council Reports. 1) Mr. Taylor stated he participated in the Castle Forest Neighborhood Cleanup on Saturday, May 14, 2005. He also thanked the City Staff who participated in the Cleanup. 2) Mr. Thomaides stated he attended the Austin-San Antonio Corridor Meeting last week. 3) Mayor Narvaiz stated she attended the rededication of Prospect Park. She stated the Greenbelt Alliance is hoping to soon host a Mayor's Walk, and has requested an evening walk. 4) Mayor Narvaiz stated she attended the NAFTA Conference in San Pedro, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She stated it was an honor to be there. She provided the Council with a written summary report of the Conference.
