Section 6.3.3.3 On- Premises Freestanding Signs <br />(a) Standards. Permanent on- premises freestanding signs are subject to the following <br />standards: <br />(1)a. Directional signs up to 24 square feet in area, provided the number of these <br />signs does not exceed the number of driveways; <br />(8) A neighborhood /community center identification sign up to 96 square feet in <br />area and six feet in height may be displayed on private property or in the <br />public right -of -way at a street entrance to the subdivision, in addition to other <br />freestanding signs permitted by this Section. Architectural features such as <br />archways, towers or columns may be up to 12 feet in height and are not <br />counted toward the square footage of the sign. Flagpoles are permitted at <br />the model home center and community center areas and shall not exceed <br />50 feet in height. <br />(9) Primary and Secondary Community Entry Monumentation <br />a. Primary and Secondary Community Entry Monumentation shall be of <br />a significant enough nature to announce the presence and scale of <br />the Paso Robles Community. The monumentation features shall be <br />of an appropriate scale to the development and its current or planned <br />surroundings. <br />b. Primary and Secondary Community Entry Monumentation within <br />rights of way may consist of the following features: <br />i. Sign Wall(s) with a maximum height of 8 feet and a maximum <br />square footage of 500 sf. <br />ii. Accent wall(s) with maximum heights of 8 feet. • <br />iii. Retaining wall(s) as required to mitigate the environmental <br />impact of the monumentation and square footage of retaining <br />wall face shall not count toward the square footage of the sign <br />or sign wall. <br />iv. A water feature with an appropriate and efficient water source. <br />v. Signage consisting of freestanding letters, mounted plaques, <br />engraved stone, masonry, concrete or other material suitable <br />for the design with a square footage not to exceed 96 square <br />feet to be mounted or otherwise affixed to the Sign Wall(s). <br />vi. Hardscape and decorative paving. <br />vii. Landscaping. <br />viii. Landscape and Accent Lighting. <br />Placement of signage and monumentation will comply with City of San <br />Marcos safety and visibility requirements and a written agreement <br />pertaining to primary and secondary entry monumentation within rights of <br />way shall be entered into with the City. <br />c. Primary and Secondary Community Entry Monumentation outside <br />rights of way may consist of the following features: <br />i. Sign Wall(s) with a maximum height of 8 feet and maximum <br />square footage of 500 sf. <br />ii. Accent wall(s) with maximum heights of 8 feet. <br />iii. Retaining wall(s) as required to mitigate the environmental • <br />impact of the monumentation and square footage of retaining <br />-52- <br />
