<br />period. <br /> <br />(c) This article and Article 12 do not lessen the responsibility of any person installing, <br />operating or controlling any electric wiring or electrical apparatus for damages to anyone or for <br />performance of a contract. Neither the city nor any city officer or employee assumes any liability <br />because of inspection, certificate or permit pursuant to this article or Article 12. <br /> <br />Sec. 14.273. Existing buildings. <br /> <br />If the occupancy classification of any existing building or structure, as determined in the <br />building code, or its use, as defined in chapter 114 pertaining to zoning, is changed, the electrical <br />equipment and systems in the building or structure shall be made to conform with this article before <br />the new occupancy is instituted. <br /> <br />Sees. 14.274--14.290. Reserved. <br /> <br />DIVISION 2. STANDARDS <br /> <br />Sec. 14.291. Applicability. <br /> <br />(a)This article controls over all other parts of this chapter if a conflict occurs between this article and <br />the electrical code or the code for one- and two-family dwellings, which are adopted in 914.002. <br /> <br />(b) This article applies: <br /> <br />(1) throughout the city limits regardless of the electrical provider; and <br /> <br />(2) to all property, regardless of location, connected to the city electric utility system. <br /> <br />Sec. 14.292. Amendments. <br /> <br />The following rules take precedence over and supersede any portion of the electrical code adopted in <br />section 14.002 where conflicts occur: <br /> <br />(1) The following minimum wire sizes shall be used for the type of circuit indicated: <br /> <br />(A) No branch circuit will have wire smaller than #12 A WG. This does not prohibit smaller <br />wire sizes for circuits 90 volts and lower or for control circuits. <br /> <br />(B) Built-in ovens shall have a minimum wire size of#10 A WG copper. <br /> <br />(C) Ranges shall have a minimum wire size of#8 A WG copper or equivalent aluminum. <br /> <br />(D) Window air conditioners shall have a minimum wire size of#10 A WG copper. <br /> <br />(E) Water heaters shall have a minimum wire size of#lO A WG copper. <br /> <br />(2) No aluminum wire smaller than #6 A WG will be used. <br /> <br />C:\TEMP\bldg code 2-13-02 inc. doc <br /> <br />22 <br />
