<br />This Parks. Recreation and Open Space Master Plan further recommends that changes <br /> <br />be made to the current subdivision ordinance to provide necessary parkland in proportion <br /> <br />to the number of residents being attracted by a development rather than as a percentage <br /> <br />of the land being developed. Developments of low residential density would not be <br /> <br />required to provide as much land as an equal sized development of higher density. <br />Changes to the subdivision ordinance should also include descriptions and elements of <br /> <br />"suitable" parkland in order to preclude obtaining unsuitable or unusable land. <br /> <br />Through various public hearings made to solicit citizen input for incorporation into this <br /> <br />Parks. Recreation and Open Space" Master Plan, the citizens placed a high priority on an <br /> <br />integrated Hike and Bike Trail system which utilizes mostly off-street, and where not <br /> <br />possible on-street, bike paths and lanes to connect and interconnect the various <br /> <br />neighborhoods with the dmvntown and business areas, parks and recreational areas, and <br /> <br />the schools and the University. <br /> <br />Other high priority requests made at the various public hearings for incorporation into this <br /> <br />Parks. Recreation and Open Space Master Plan include a BMX track, skateboard and <br /> <br />roller blade parks, regional and neighborhood pools, neighborhood recreation centers with <br /> <br />neighborhood recreation programs, and a regional arts / cultural center. <br /> <br />The City of San Marcos' quality of life is very closely related to the unique natural areas <br /> <br />found within its jurisdiction.
