<br />166. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2001J.39 R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, EXPRESSING <br />SUPPORT FOR STAGGERED TERMS OF OFFICE FOR <br />THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE HA YS <br />COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT; AND DECLARING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />RECITALS: <br /> <br />1. The Hays County Appraisal District Board of Directors is made up of seven <br />individuals who represent the taxing entities of Hays County in the management of the <br />Appraisal District, which is responsible for keeping track of property ownership and <br />appraising property in Hays County for tax purposes. <br /> <br />2. The Appraisal District board members currently serve simultaneous terms of <br />office, which necessitates cumulative voting by taxing units for the selection of board <br />members. <br /> <br />3. The Appraisal District Board unanimously adopted a resolution on July 12, <br />2001 to change the terms of office for board members so that they will serve staggered <br />terms of office, with each vacancy on the board being filled thereafter by the candidate <br />nominated by the taxing unit whose designated board position is being vacated. Under <br />this system, the City Council would be entitled to fill one board position. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />P ART 1. The City Council requests that the Hays County Appraisal District take <br />steps to expand its board of directors to enable all of Hays County's major taxing entities <br />to have direct representation on the board. <br /> <br />PART 2.
