4. Consider adoption or direction to Staff on matters discussed in Executive Session. <br />The San Marcos City Council reconvened into regular session at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, August <br />16, 2011. The City Council provided direction to staff to place the appointee evaluations on the <br />September 6, 2011, Agenda. <br />5. COUNCIL MEMBER UPDATES: Receive status reports and updates from the Mayor <br />and/or Council Members and a general discussion regarding the following: <br />Council Member Terry — Update on CAPCOG Executive Committee activity. <br />Council Member Terry provided a brief update on the recent activity of the CAPCOG Executive <br />Committee. Mr. Terry provided a handout introducing a new Homeland Security feature from <br />CAPCOG. <br />Council Member Jones — Report on the recent InternInSanMarcos event <br />Council Member Jones provided an update on the recent InternInSanMarcos event that the City <br />partnered with Texas State University and other surrounding communities on. The program <br />reached out to students in order to aid them in acquiring an internship in the San Marcos area. <br />Mr. Jones shared that the event was highly successful. They hosted 154 Students of those <br />students 117 were from Texas State, 30 from San Marcos High School, 6 from Luling High <br />School, and 2 from Texas Lutheran University. They will be hosting the event during the spring. <br />6. invocation. <br />Chris Carrier from the San Marcos Baptist Academy provided the invocation. <br />7. Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Aidan Cape a 4 1 grade gifted and talented student from Hernandez Elementary led the assembly <br />in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. <br />8.30 Minute Citizen Comment Period. <br />Ted Breihan, 111 W Hillcrest, has been a resident of San Marcos for 60 years and wants to try <br />and continue to make San Marcos a better place to live. He provided Council with a handout <br />that contains data from Lisa Spencer regarding the budget. Mr. Breihan stated that he was <br />against the $149 million budget and that it needed to be brought back down. He stated that the <br />Purgatory Creek Nature Center needed to be wiped away entirely and use this $318,000 to plan <br />the loop around town. <br />Rob Roark, 1804A Hunter Rd, thanked Mr. Jones for the Intern fair. Spore against the budget <br />and stated that we are going into the hole, and that we have to stop the spending and taking <br />money from the electric utility and transferring to the general fund. Mr. Roark also stated that <br />Council needed to start looking at cuts and to stop the rate increases and the tax increases. <br />
