<br />138. <br /> <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />March 1, 2005 <br /> <br />Page 11 <br /> <br />citizens She also stated over a two-month period Staff conducted eighteen <br />Istakeholder meetings and provided a Needs Survey, which received 220 <br />responses The input from the stakeholder meetings and the survey showed a <br />high prlorlty ln economic development, transportation, affordable housing, <br />education and public facilities Mr Thomaides stated he would be <br />interested in holding a Workshop to discuss the CDBG Consolidated plan <br />The Council agreed by consensus to hold a Workshop on Thursday, March 24, <br />2005 at 11 30 a m <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced a discussion regarding setting a date for <br />discussion of Workforce Development Mr Guerrero inquired what the San <br />Marcos workforce looks like He wants to identify what the City is doing <br />and what is the current workforce He wants to know what the Council can <br />do, and can the Council present the skills and resources San Marcos has to <br />offer Mr O'Leary stated he will work with Staff to compile information <br />regarding the skills and resources San Marcos has to offer Mr Mihalkanin <br />stated he feels this would be good informatlon to compile, but feels the <br />University or the school districts might be able to help complle thlS <br />information Mayor Narvaiz suggested Mr Guerrero work with Mr O'Leary to <br />determine what information needs to be collected Mr Guerrero stated he <br />wants to look at the big picture and wants to know what is needed to keep <br />the young talented workforce in San Marcos Mr O'Leary stated he will <br />Iwork with Staff to compile the information The Council agreed by <br />consensus to bring back a dlscussion once Staff has compiled the <br />information <br /> <br />Mayor Narvaiz lntroduced a discussion regarding setting date for discussion <br />of Union Pacific Railroad freight trains Mr Thomaides inquired to the <br />status of traln issues Mr Mihalkanin stated he wants traffic counts from <br />an authoritative source, for the number of trains WhlCh go through the City <br />of San Marcos He stated he wants the traffic counts to include the nature <br />of the frelght on the trains Mr Taylor stated he wants to know what the <br />City can do regarding the railroad freight trains Mr Thomaides stated he <br />would like to know the numbers of the stops which block the City <br />intersections Mayor Narvaiz stated she would like to discuss the idea of <br />having an automated complaint line Mr Mihalkanin stated he wants state <br />and federal officials to be contacted regarding the problem of trains <br />blocking roads The Councll agreed by consensus to brlng back the compiled <br />information for Councll discussion and direction <br /> <br />Mayor NarvalZ introduced a discussion regarding City Council direction of <br />future agenda items 1) Mayor NarvalZ stated she would like to agendize an <br />update of the CAMPO transportation plan at the beginning of the next <br />Regular Meeting 2) Mr Guerrero stated he would llke to agendize a <br />IdiScussion regarding design of buildings which are constructed in San <br />Marcos <br /> <br />Mayor NarvalZ introduced continuing Executive Session pursuant to the <br />Government Code, Section 551 071, to seek the City Attorney's advice <br />regarding pending Iltigatlon, contemplated litlgation, a settlement offer, <br />
