<br />91. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 2000- 71R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS EXPRESSING <br />SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SAN <br />MARCOS PREPARATORY SCHOOL; AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Willie Mac Mitchell Community Opportunity Center (the "Mitchell Center") <br />Board of Directors and staff is developing a strategic plan to chartel"a preparatory public school in San <br />Marcos, Hays County, Texas, to be known as the San Marcos Preparatory school; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The San Marcos Preparatory School will be a free open-enrollment charter school, <br />chartered by the Texas Education Agency and approved by the Texas Board of Education; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Marcos Preparatory School will serve students in kindergarten through <br />fifth grade in the first year, and add an additional grade each year; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the mission of the San Marcos Preparatory School will be to educate and <br />empower student~ narents, staff, and community to think clearly; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the goal of the San Marcos Preparatory School will be to create a small school <br />environment that will focus on the development of each student; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the curriculum will be designed to address the mental, physical, emotional. and <br />spiritual needs of each student, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, local school board members for the San Marcos Preparatory School will assure <br />the assessment of students, school staff and educational programs and will be accountable to the <br />community; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. The City Council hereby declares its support for the development of the San Marcos <br />Preparatory Scho~. <br /> <br />PART 2.
