<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />55. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 2005-.1.1i8...R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION FOR PRESERVE <br />AMERICA COMMUNITY DESIGNATION, AND DECLARING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Preserve America IS a WhIte House mItIatIve developed m cooperatIOn wIth <br />the AdvIsory CouncIl on Historic PreservatIOn, the U S Department of the Intenor, and the U S <br />Department of Commerce, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the goals of thIS mItIatIve mclude a greater shared knowledge about our <br />NatIOn's past, strengthened regIOnal IdentItIes and local pnde, mcreased local partICIpatIOn m <br />preservmg the country's Irreplaceable cultural and natural hentage assets, and support for the <br />economIC VItality of communItIes, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, thIS ImtIatIve IS compatible WIth the mterests and goals of the CIty of San <br />Marcos related to hIstonc preservatIOn, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, deSIgnatIOn as a Preserve America CommunIty will Improve our commumty's <br />abIlIty to protect and promote ItS hIstoncal resources, and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on October 13,2005 the Histonc PreservatIOn CommISSIOn voted unammously <br />to support Preserve America deSIgnatIOn, now therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS. <br /> <br />PART 1. The CIty of San Marcos wIll apply for the deSIgnatIOn of San Marcos as a Preserve <br />America CommunIty <br /> <br />PART 2. The CIty of San Marcos WIll protect and celebrate our heritage, use our histonc assets for <br />economic development and community reVItalIzatIOn, and encourage people to expenence and <br />apprecIate local historic resources through educatIOn and hentage tounsm programs. <br /> <br />PART 3.
