<br />145. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-141 R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS APPOINTING A SAN MARCOS <br />SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE; AND DECLARING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE <br /> <br />RECITALS: <br /> <br />1. In 2001, the City of San Marcos will celebrate the 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial, of <br />its founding in the year 1851, when Edward Burleson, Eli T. Merriman and William L. Lindsay agreed <br />on a plan for the establishment of the town of San Marcos. <br /> <br />2. The City Council wishes to appoint a committee to plan a celebration of this sesquicentennial. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. Creation of Sesquicentennial Committee. <br /> <br />An ad-hoc Sesquicentennial Committee is formed. The Committee will be composed of fifteen <br />members appointed by the City Council. Three members of the Committee will be nominated by the <br />Mayor, and two members will be nominated by each of the other Council members. <br /> <br />PART 2. Role of the Committee. <br /> <br />A. The Sesquicentennial Committee will have as its purpose the development of a plan for a <br />celebration of the San Marcos Sesquicentennial. The plan should identify appropriate methods and <br />activities for the celebration. The celebration need not be a single event; it may be a series of activities <br />and events during the year 2001. The celebration may involve joint activities with private persons and <br />firms and with other governmental entities. <br /> <br />B. The Committee will endeavor to identify private and public sources of funding for activities <br />and events that require the expenditure of funds. The Committee may make recommendations to the City <br />Manager and City Council for the expenditure of City funds for the celebration. The Committee may not <br />directly expend City funds or contract for the expenditure of City funds without approval of the City <br />Manager or City Council. <br /> <br />PART 3.
