The authors were concerned that the region
has grown 115"/ between 1980 and 2000 mostly in low- density
single- family developments on the fringe of urban areas, The report
offers a vision for the future of the region where growth is
concentrated in "Activity Centers ". The region hopes to cluster
growth, integrate land use and transportation and reduce the impacts
of growth, while supporting a higher quality of life in vibrant
Activity Centers (Cities and Towns),
The 2007 San Marcos Downtown plan creates a vision of walkable
places that seems to reflect the regional goals, but does not match the
existing zoning code.
