<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Sector One <br /> <br />Chapter 2 - Today <br /> <br />Floodplains <br /> <br />There are floodways and floodplains along both the Purgatory and Willow Springs <br />creeks, Approximately 38 percent of the land in Sector One is located in identified <br />floodways or floodplains, <br /> <br />There are 99 acres of the sector located in floodways and stream channels. There are 106 <br />additional acres in the 100-year floodplain, an area which has a I % chance of being <br />inundated by floodwaters in any given year. The 100-year floodplain has been adopted <br />by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as the basis for floodplain management <br />nationwide. There are an additional 36 acres of Sector One in the 500-year floodplain, an <br />area which has a 0,2% chance of being inundated by floodwaters in any given year. <br /> <br />Currently in San Marcos, development is prohibited in the floodway, a floodplain permit <br />is required for any development in the 100-year floodplain, and floodplain permits are <br />not required for development in the 500-year floodplain. <br /> <br />Sector One floodplains are shown on the Natural Features map on the following page, <br /> <br />DRAFT: September 13, 2004 <br /> <br />2-4 <br />
