<br />The Hays County Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee recognizes that the entire county will
<br />continue to be exposed and subject to the impact of hazards as described above as well as other
<br />hazards that may develop in the future. Furthermore, it is possible for a major disaster to occur
<br />at any time and at any place.
<br />
<br />Table 3, "Hazard Rating Summary", provides a useful tool in determining the types of hazards
<br />most prevalent within the County. The summary identifies hazards by both severity and
<br />frequency. The hazards that are most likely to occur within the community are those hazards
<br />identified as "major" or "substantial" in severity as well as "likely" and "highly likely" in
<br />frequency. The hazards identified in these categories have all occurred at some point in the
<br />County's history. These hazards include: wildfire, tornado, flooding, urban drainage, stream
<br />bank erosion, transportation accidents, hazardous materials release, high winds, tornadoes, and
<br />drought.
