RESOLUTION NO. 2012- 01 R <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS <br />BECOMING A FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION <br />GRANTEE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO FILE <br />DOCUMENTATION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY ACHIEVING <br />FTA GRANTEE STATUS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />RECITALS: <br />1. The City of San Marcos will become a new small urbanized area when the <br />2010 U.S. Census results become official in the spring of 2012. <br />2. This designation will result in the City being eligible to receive direct <br />Federal Transit Administration ( "FTA ") funding to support the operating, capital and <br />planning costs associated with the provision of public transit services. <br />3. The City and Texas State University — San Marcos are discussing the <br />potential expansion of the University's student shuttle system into a public transit system <br />to serve the greater San Marcos area supported, in part, by federal funding. <br />4. The City and University are considering the creation of the San Marcos <br />Urban Transit District to assist in future stakeholder involvement and coordination of <br />public transit services. <br />5. The City of San Marcos desires to become an FTA grantee. <br />6. The City of San Marcos has the requisite legal, technical, and financial <br />capability to undertake and comply with FTA guidelines and procedures, and to become a <br />legally qualified FTA grantee. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The City Manager is authorized to execute and file all necessary <br />documentation and information necessary to enable the City of San Marcos to become an <br />FTA Grantee. <br />PART 2. This Resolution is in full force and effect immediately from and <br />after its passage and adoption. <br />ADOPTED on January 3, 2012. <br />
