Chapter 2

Sector Four Today

In 1997 more apartment units than houses w~re under construction or proposed within the
city, so the percentage of renter-occupied units is expected to rise, although household
size may decrease slightly. However, in Sector Four, the majority of the residential
construction since 1990 has been new single family homes. There have been
approximately 20 new single family homes built in Sector Four since 1990 primarily in
the Victory Gardens and East Guadalupe neighborhoods. There have also been a few
manufactured homes moved into the sector. There have been no new apartment
complexes or duplexes built in Sector Four since 1990. Although no post-Census figures
are available on owner-vs -renter occupied units, Sector Four should continue to see a
trend of single family houses built and a higher percentage of owner occupied housing.

2-10
