Chapter 2

Sector Four Today

Public Transportation
There are four entities providing transit services in San Marcos, including Sector Four.
Southwest Texas State University shuttle bus system provides shuttle service throughout
the area for students and staff. Durham, Inc. owns this shuttle bus system. Its office is on
Wonder World Drive east of Hunter Road. San Marcos Transit has four routes (Uhland
Road, Cheatham Street, Victory Gardens, and Marketplace) that link the residential areas
with the central business district. CARTS (Capital Area Rural Transit System) provides
on-demand, door-to-door service for qualifying residents. The Greyhound Bus Lines
station is located on the IH-35 access road southwest of State Highway 123, in Sector
Four.

Rail Service
Union Pacific Railroad tracks run along the northern boundary of Sector Four with an
average of 20 or more trains per day. Six Amtrak trains per week also run on these
tracks. The only Amtrak stop in the city is on Comal Street east of Guadalupe Street.

2-12
