<br />Chapter 2 <br /> <br />Sector Six Today <br /> <br />Community Facilities <br />Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Service Protection <br />Sector Six is located in the David Police Patrol District. Fire protection in Sector Six is <br />provided from the Broadway Street Station on Broadway Street east of Parkdale. <br />Emergency Medical Service is provided by San Marcos/Hays County EMS. <br /> <br />Water and Wastewater Systems <br />Water and wastewater service throughout the city is provided by the City of San Marcos. <br />There are three large waterlines that serve Sector Six: one runs parallel to IH-35 from <br />State Highway 80 to the San Marcos Technology Park, another follows State Highway 80 <br />east to State Highway 21 and continues to the airport, and the last runs parallel to Barbara <br />Drive. The major wastewater lines run along IH-35 from the San Marcos Technology <br />Park to Uhland Road and another runs along IH-35 from River Road to Davis Street. <br />There are two major pump stations in the sector: one near Davis Street south ofIH-35 and <br />the other north of the Union Pacific Railroad near River Road. Some residents still have <br />septic systems, but as units are sold, hookup to the city's wastewater system is required of <br />new owners. <br /> <br />Waste Water Treatment Plant <br />The San Marcos Advanced Tertiary Wastewater Treatment Plant is located in Sector Six <br />on River Road adjacent to the San Marcos River. In 1998, the facility was expanded and <br />rehabilitated into a state-of-the-art facility, which produces some of the highest quality <br />effluent in the state of Texas. Using a four-step process, 9 million gallons of water are <br />treated each day and discharged into the San Marcos River. <br /> <br />Electric Service <br />The City of San Marcos provides electric service. The San Marcos Airport is served by <br />Pedernales, a privately owned electric cooperative. <br /> <br />Solid Waste Collection <br />The City of San Marcos contracts with Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI) to provide <br />residential garbage collection in the area. <br /> <br />Natural Gas <br />Entex, Inc., is the supplier of natural gas in San Marcos. <br /> <br />Telephone <br />Century Telephone of San Marcos, Inc. (CTSM) provides telephone servIce III San <br />Marcos and surrounding areas. <br /> <br />Cable Television <br />TCI Cablevision of Texas (TCI) offers cable television service to the San Marcos area. <br /> <br />2-17 <br />
