<br />36. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 1998- 41 R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, EXPRESSING THE CITY'S COMMITMENT TO <br />THE GOAL OF "AMERICA'S PROMISE" AS A "COMMUNITY OF <br />PROMISE"; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />RECITALS: <br /> <br />1. America's Promise, the nationwide Alliance for Youth, has proposed as a goal <br />for each "Community of Promise" to ensure that the young people in the community have <br />access to five fundamental resources: <br /> <br />A. An ongoing relationship with a caring adult; <br /> <br />B. Safe places and structured activities during non-school hours; <br /> <br />C. A healthy start for a healthy future; <br /> <br />D. Marketable and career skills through effective education; and <br /> <br />E. An opportunity to give back through service. <br /> <br />2. The City Council wishes to express its commitment to these principles. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. The City Council is committed to support the goal of America's Promise <br />stated above for the City of San Marcos as a "Community of Promise". <br /> <br />PART 2. The City Council encourages the entire San Marcos community, including <br />young people, non-profits, communities of faith, businesses and schools to move beyond <br />"business as usual" to ensure that the needs of young people are known and the talents <br />of all in the community are tapped. <br /> <br />PART 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />passage. <br /> <br />ADOPTED this 23rd day of February ,1998. <br /> <br />~&\~~ <br /> <br />Billy G.
