Regular Meeting September 19, 2006 Page 12 <br />Drive to the south on Comanche to create a new main entrance to the Student <br />Center, proposed student housing and Matthews St. parking garage. <br />Improvements proposed are a traffic signal at the new intersection, <br />pavement widening on Comanche to provide a dedicated left turn onto Student <br />Center Drive with one through lane to Woods Street, a new right turn lane <br />from Sessom onto Comanche and lengthening the left turn bay on Sessom for <br />Comanche. She stated the TIA analyzed both the increase in Texas State <br />trips as well as the City?s traffic growth over the next 3 years. She <br />stated the TIA showed that both a light at the new intersection of Comanche <br />and Live Oak and another at Comanche and Sessom is necessary. Mr. <br />Thomaides inquired to the cost of moving a traffic light. Ms. Anderson <br />stated the cost for moving a traffic light is an estimated $50,000.00. Mr. <br />Thomaides inquired how payment be handled for the cost of moving the <br />traffic light. Ms. Anderson stated the University paid for the light and <br />then dedicated the light to the City. Nancy Nusbaum, Texas State <br />th <br />University, stated the 5 lane on Comanche Street will be dedicated for <br />parking garage entrance. Mr. Jones inquired to whether the large apartment <br />complex residents from Comanche would be filling up the garage. Ms. <br />Nusbaum stated she feels the people who live in the complex off Comanche <br />will walk to school. The Council agreed by consensus to bring this item <br />back to Council. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced a discussion regarding the Special Meetings and <br />Workshops dates. A. Monday, December 11, 2006, Special Meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the City <br />Council Chambers to consider Board appointments. D. Thursday, January 4, <br />2007, at the Activity Center at 6:00 p.m. for the Board Appreciation <br />Reception. The Council agreed by consensus to hold a Special Meeting on <br />Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers to <br />Canvass November 7, 2006, General and Special Election; City Council <br />Workshop on Monday, November 30, 2006, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall <br />Conference Room to discuss Board appointments; Special Meeting on Monday, <br />December 11, 2006, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers to consider <br />Board appointments; and Board Appreciation Reception on Thursday, January <br />4, 2007, at the Activity Center at 6:00 p.m. <br />Mayor Narvaiz introduced a discussion regarding City Council direction on <br />future agenda items. 1) Mayor Narvaiz requested the Staff provide a list of <br />outstanding discussion for future agenda items. 2) Mr. Thomaides stated he <br />would like to have an update on Sessom and Aquarena Springs Drive and ways <br />to make it safer. 3) Mr. Thomaides stated he feels during a Council <br />Meeting break a message for the television viewers should show the <br />estimated return time. <br /> <br />
