Regular Meeting September 19, 2006 Page 2 Mayor Narvaiz introduced for consideration adoption or direction to staff on matters discussed in Executive Session. Mr. O?Leary stated the Council provided direction regarding how to proceed with the appointees evaluations, Convention and Visitors and Economic Development contracts. Mayor Narvaiz lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Narvaiz awarded the winners of the CAPCOG 9-1-1 2007 Calendar winners and Becky Stewart provided a powerpoint to display the winning pictures. Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Citizen Comment Period. No one signed up to speak during the Citizen Comment Period. Mayor Narvaiz introduced the Staff Report. Mr. O?Leary stated the Agenda will be provided at the next meeting paperless. Mayor Narvaiz introduced the City Council Report. 1) Kyle Morris stated the scholarship endowment fund will be larger than $250,000, which was originally planned. He encouraged the community to support this endowment fund. 2) Kyle Morris provided the Council with a draft of the downtown area banner. 3) Kyle Morris thanked John Thomaides for speaking to the Student Government Association regarding the Commuter Rail project. 4) John Thomaides stated he attended the CAPCO Workshop in San Marcos last week. He stated they discussed the transportation needs for the next 25 years. 5) Mr. Thomaides stated he provided an update on the Commuter Rail to the Planning and Zoning Commission last week. 6) Mr. Thomaides stated he attended the City?s ribbon cutting celebration for Craddock Street. He thanked the City for making Craddock Street a pedestrian friendly road. 7) Mr. Thomaides stated he attended the LBJ Dinner on Sunday, September 17, 2006. He thanked Mr. Mihalkanin for all his hard work on the LBJ Museum project. 8) Ed Mihalkanin thanked Mayor Narvaiz and Mr. Thomaides for attending the LBJ Dinner on Sunday night. He stated a LBJ Museum reception will be held on December 6, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. He also stated more than $500,000.00 went into the remodeling of the museum building. 9) Mayor Narvaiz provided the Council with her written Council Report. 10) Mayor Narvaiz stated the City Council will sponsor the Texas Benefits Event on Saturday, October 7, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the San Marcos High School Cafeteria. She stated originally the State was only doing this in Austin. 11) Mayor Narvaiz stated at the next City Council Meeting the Wi-Fi consultant will provide the Council with an update on a Wireless Mesh Network for San Marcos IT and radio based connection, 2-way broadband connection.
