155. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2003- 4 9 R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR PRESIDENT <br />GEORGE W. BUSH AND THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES <br />PARTICIPATING IN THE IRAQI CONFLICT; AND EXPRESSING <br />FERVENT HOPE FOR A QUICK RESOLUTION TO THE CONFLICT. <br /> <br />RECITALS: <br /> <br /> I. President George W. Bush has issued an ultimatum to Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi <br />government, and has deployed more than 300,000 United States and British military troops to bring an <br />end to the threat the Iraqi regime poses to the United States of America, the Middle East region, and the <br />world. <br /> <br /> 2. The City Council recognizes that many San Mamos families am directly affected by this <br />military action as family members and friends volunteer honorable and courageous service ia defense of <br />our country as members of the United States armed forces <br /> <br /> 3. The people of San Marcos, Texas include both citizeus who support a war with Iraq and <br />citizens who seek a peacefid resolution to the conflict <br /> <br /> 4. The City Council also recoguizes and values the divergent views of o1.ii' citizem'y, while <br />believing that all of our citizens share the hope that President Bush will exercise wisdom and courage as <br />lie acts on behalf of the American people. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br /> PART 1. The City Council expresses its support for President George W. Bush during this period <br />of uncertainty, and its bope that lie will guide the nation to a swift and successfid conclusion to the Iraqi <br />coaflict <br /> <br /> PART 2. The City Council expresses its suppo~ for the armed forces of the Uuited States who <br />stand ready to defend our country's freedom and democratic ideals every day, and are aow called to <br />extraordinary service in the lraqi conflict at this perilous time in history. <br /> <br /> PART 3. The City Council expresses its fervent hope that them will be a quick resolution to the <br />h'aqi conflict. <br /> <br />ADOPTED THIS 24TM day of March, 2003. <br /> <br />Robert B.
