RESOLUTION NO. 2012-88R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS <br />AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF <br />UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS AND THE <br />TEXAS SOUTH - INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />ENCOURAGING FOREIGN BUSINESS INVESTMENT AND <br />RECRUITMENT AND LOCAL JOB CREATION; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE <br />RECITALS: <br />1. The City of San Marcos seeks to collaborate with other cities in establishing and <br />conducting an initial trade mission to China and other countries to market the Texas South region <br />in 2012. <br />2. The City of San Marcos will consider common areas for regional marketing to <br />focus on, but not be limited to, energy, bioscience and healthcare, logistics, advanced <br />manufacturing and tourism to garner international attention and investment. <br />3. The City of San Marcos desires to leverage Texas South educational linkages and <br />research assets. <br />4. The City of San Marcos wishes to market geographic advantages that serve as a <br />gateway to Latin America. <br />5. The City of San Marcos seeks to collaborate with other cities to identify linkages <br />in each respective community to support the expansion of exports to foreign markets, including <br />China. <br />6. The City of San Marcos wishes to join with the cities of Corpus Christi, <br />Brownsville, Edinburg, Laredo and San Antonio to establish the Texas South - International <br />Alliance ( "TS -IA ") to pursue the foregoing objectives. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The City Council hereby adopts the Recitals above as true and <br />incorporates them as its findings in this Resolution. <br />PART 2. The City Council of the City of San Marcos recognizes that international <br />investment and expansion bring economic benefits to the Greater San Marcos region. <br />PART 3. The City Council further finds that a joint marketing approach with <br />regional partners in the TS -IA benefits the City of San Marcos. <br />
