Hopkins <br /> San Marcos, Texas 78666 <br /> RE: REQUEST FOR COUNCIL AGENDA ACTION ITEM <br /> CONSIDERATION OF BID RECEIVED FOR TAX RESALE OF <br /> 61.23 ACRES (ADJACENT TO HAYS COUNTY CIVIC CENTER) <br /> AND AUTHORIZING LEGAL COUNSEL TO NEGOTIATE CON- <br /> TRACT OF SALE <br /> Dear Mr. Taylor: <br /> Enclosed is a copy of a letter received by Luanne Caraway, the tax assessor-collector, <br /> from Corridor Village Company, LLC of San Marcos. The company has offered the sum of <br /> $211,000 for the property described above and which is now held by Hays County, in trust for all <br /> of the local taxing units. The last offer we had for this property was the sum of $157,920 which <br /> the county and school district approved, but the city rejected. <br /> The total aggregate amount of taxes, penalty and interest owing on the property assessed <br /> by the city, school and county is $ 290,065.40. The bid of $ 211,000 represents a 73% recovery <br /> of the taxes, penalty and interest actually due. <br /> The stake which the City of San Marcos has in the matter is the amount of $ 83,596.14 <br /> in taxes, penalty and interest owing. If the bid of $ 211,000 is accepted, the city's 73% recovery <br /> would amount to the sum of $ 61,025.18. <br /> By way of information, we would also mention that the latest certified value of the <br /> property, according to the Hays County Appraisal District's 1997 appraisal roll, is carried at <br /> $277,890. <br /> We would appreciate your having this matter placed on the agenda of the council's next <br /> regularly scheduled meeting, and I will be happy to attend the council meeting and be available <br /> to answer any questions if you think that would be helpful. Please let me know. In the <br /> meantime, please feel free to call if you need any additional information. <br />
