153
RESOLUTION 1998 - 133 R
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS,
TEXAS SUPPORTING THE FORMATION OF THE SAN ANTONIO- AUSTIN
CORRIDOR COMMUTER RAIL FACILITATION COMMITTEE (CRFC) AND
DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
RECITALS:
1. The issue of commuter rail is a question of public interest for local
governments throughout the greater Austin-San Antonio corridor.
2. A recent survey prepared for the Austin Transportation Study indicates that
67 percent of the traveling public in the region would use passenger rail if it existed in the
corridor.
3. A commuter rail line running through Hays county might have many benefits
for the citizens of San Marcos and the rest of the county, by easing the growing congestion
pressure on the roads and highways, promoting economic development, perhaps
decreasing the travel delays caused by lengthy freight trains, diminishing air pollution from
automobile traffic and generally making regional travel more accessible.
4. Senator Gonzalo Barrientos and Jeff Wentworth, who sponsored the
commuter rail district legislation which became state law have now endorsed the idea of
a San Antonio-Austin Corridor Commuter Rail Facilitation Committee ("CRFC").
5. Nothing in this resolution implies that the City has any obligation to provide
funds to the CRFC or any future Inter-municipal Commuter Rail District.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS,
TEXAS:
PART 1. The City Council supports the formation of the Austin-San Antonio
Corridor CRFC, as proposed and adopted by the Austin Transportation Study.
PART 2. Billy G. Moore shall be appointed as the City's representative to the
CRFC, with Joe Cox as the voting alternate, should rules be established at the CRFC to
allow such a position; and that their terms shall commence immediately upon creation of
the CRFC and last through December 31, 1998, or until their replacements are appointed
by the City Council.
PART 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately from
and after its passage.
ADOPTED this the 13th day of July ,1998
~~~~
Billy G.
