Sector One Chapter 2 - Today <br />Housing <br />Based on analysis of 2000 Census data, there were approximately 1,340 dwelling units <br />(individual houses or apartments) within Sector One. The following table shows the <br />estimated breakdown of single - family homes vs. multi - family apartments and duplexes <br />within Sector One compared to the city as a whole: <br />Table 2 -3: Sector One Housing Types <br />Housing Percent Citywide <br />Single Family* 63% 42% <br />Multifamily * * 37% 5 8 % <br />* includes mobile homes <br />* * includes duplexes <br />Based on analysis of 2000 Census data, 41% of the housing in Sector One was owner <br />occupied and 59% was renter occupied, approximately the same percentages as in 1990. <br />The figures for the city as a whole were 30% owner occupied and 70% renter occupied <br />(up from 68% in 1990). Residents in dorms or institutional housing were not counted in <br />these figures. Vacancy in 2000 was reported as 7% in Sector One and 5% city wide. <br />Community Facilities <br />Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Service Protection <br />Most of Sector One is located in the Edward Police Patrol District, while a portion of the <br />Sector is in the Adam District. Fire protection in Sector One is provided predominantly <br />from the Central Station at Hutchinson and Guadalupe Street and the Hunter Road <br />Station at 2420 Hunter Road. Emergency Medical Service is provided by San <br />Marcos /Hays County EMS. <br />Water and Wastewater Systems <br />Water and wastewater service throughout the city is provided by the City of San Marcos. <br />Some residents still have septic systems, but as units are sold, hookup to the city's <br />wastewater system is required of new owners. <br />Electric Service <br />Electric service in the Sector is provided by the City of San Marcos. <br />Education <br />There are no public schools within Sector One. However, Crockett Elementary School is <br />located nearby in Sector Two, to the northwest, and Hernandez Intermediate School (fifth <br />and sixth grades) and Miller Junior High (seventh and eighth grades) are located off <br />Hunter Road to the southwest. <br />Adopted: September 13, 2004 2 -21 <br />
