Q:- <br /> .¡- -<. <br /> -4 S II" <br /> March 17, 1997 <br /> I Selection Committee Members <br /> Clean Texas 2000 <br /> Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission <br /> Dear Ladies and Gentlemen: <br /> It is with a great deal of pleasure that the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce <br /> registers total support for the application of the City of San Marcos to participate in Clean <br /> Texas 2000. <br /> Because of its location in the Texas hill country, relationship to the Edwards Aquifer and <br /> the San Marcos Springs and River, San Marcos residents and businesses hold a high <br /> appreciation for the environmental needs of our community, There is a keen recognition <br /> on the part of school students on up that we have an obligation to be good stewards of the <br /> air, water and landscape that is ours. City government has long played an active role in <br /> fostering this stewardship, and we are excited about prospects of taking this management <br /> a step further through the goals of Clean Texas 2000. ° <br /> The neighborhood cleanups conducted by the City are a major inducement for residents to <br /> police their homes and streets. Other programs encourage citizens not to "bag" lawn <br /> clippings, to be water-tight, and to recycle through the City's curbside program and the <br /> local private sector business Green Guy Recycling. Goals being proposed by the City for <br /> Clean Texas 2000 foresee enhanced efforts in these areas, along with new efforts in the <br /> area of sludge re-use as a byproduct of the City's new waste water treatment plant. Clean <br /> Texas 2000 will facilitate the education and participation of a greater number of residents <br /> in these programs, and higher percentages of compliance with state and local goals. <br /> Through its 700-plus members, board of directors and several committees, the San <br /> Marcos Area Chamber heartily endorses the efforts of the City of San Marcos to . <br /> participate in Clean Texas 2000, and urges your favorable consideration. <br /> @)~ <br /> .
