<br />34 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 1997- 88 R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, ADOPTING A POLICY FOR NAMING CITY <br />PARKS AND FACIl,.ITIES; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />I~ PART 1. The authority to name city parks, buildings, rooms, and other city facilities <br />, resides with the City Council. Only names submitted by the City Manager shall be <br />considered. <br /> <br />PART 2. When determined to be appropriate by the city manager, recognition plaques <br />may be placed on features within facilities, such as fountains, reflective pools, or special <br />rooms without actually naming the feature. City Council approval is not required for <br />placement of such recognition plaques. <br /> <br />PART 3. Facilities may be named for individuals or organizations from the local <br />community, well-known state or national leaders, geographical locations, events, or <br />concepts. Facilities will not be named for individuals unless they have been deceased for <br />at least two years. <br /> <br />.. <br />PART 4. For the name of an individual or organization from the local community to be <br />considered, one or more of the following criteria shall be met: <br /> <br />a. The individual or organization will have performed outstanding service to the <br />community. Generally, the service shall have been performed in the area of <br />activity associated with the facility. <br /> <br />~- b. The individual or organization will have made a significant contribution of <br />money or land toward the development, maintenance and/or operation of the <br />park, building, or facility. <br /> <br />PART 5. Any person or group may submit a nomination to name a facility, building, <br />room or park. The nomination must be in writing and include such things as: <br /> <br />a. a biographical sketch of the person whose name is suggested; <br /> <br />b. a detailed description of the person's or organization's involvement in the <br />community or departmental activity; <br /> <br />c. a statement noting the appropriateness of the proposed name for the facility, <br />building, room or park; and <br /> <br />d. an estimate of the cost required to place (or replace) signs and plaques as <br />needed to implement the new name. I <br />! <br /> <br />PART 6. Nominations should be sent to the board, commission, or department having <br />jurisdiction over the facility. If the board or department concurs with the recommended <br />name, then it will forward its recommendation to the City Manager. If the City Manager <br />approves, the name will be submitted to the City Council for final approval of the name. <br />¡ <br />PART 7.
