THOMAS <br /> Governor Box 4087 Director <br /> Austin, Texas 78773-0001 <br /> Duty Hours 512 424.2138 TOM MILLWEE <br /> Non-duty Hours 512 424-2000 Coordinator <br /> Fax 512 424-2444 <br /> July 18, 1997 <br />Dear Emergency Management Coordinator: <br />The Governor's Division of Emergency Management (DEM), is offering Hazardous Materials <br />Equipment Purchase grants for Local Jurisdictions in Texas. This grant is designed to aid a <br />jurisdiction establish a hazardous materials response team. Enclosed is an application package <br />for these grants. The grants can be used for the purchase of: <br />0 Detection equipment may include but not limited to equipment that detects for <br /> combustible gas, oxygen deficiency, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide, <br /> nitrogen peroxide, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine and toxicological agents. Note that are <br /> some detectors that will perfonn multiple functions that are available. <br />0 Chemical protective suits include an assortment of Level A suits that will best <br /> meet the needs of the local jurisdiction. <br />Please bring this program to the attention of your response elements such as the fire department <br />at the earliest opportunity. The application package contains the specific instructions for filing a <br />grant proposal. <br />These grants provide for reimbursement of costs incurred by the jurisdiction in purchasing <br />hazardous materials response equipment. <br />This grant application must be received no later than August 29, 1997. Your work on developing <br />a hazardous materials response team is appreciated.
