Current Procedures
Immediate response to a hazardous materials incident is from the San Marcos
Fire & Rescue Department. Department policy for Level 3 is presently one of
"containment". There will be a general page of off-duty and Reserve firefighters,
notification of Fire Chief and Fire Marshal, and notification of City Manager,
Police Chief, Treatment Plant Foreman, Sergeant in charge of local DPS office,
and Public Works Director. The primary objective of a Level 3 Response will be
to evacuate persons from affected area and restrict entrance into the area.
Operating from this defensive posture, clean-up is generally the responsibility of
the spiller.
