DIR.
September 3, 1997
Memo To: Texas Public Libraries
Gary Grogan, Director of Programs Ár ~
From:
Re: TIF Connectivity Grant for Public Libraries
The Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board (TIF) is pleased to announce the
availability of approximately $7.7 million in non-competitive grants for public libraries.
The purpose of this grant initiative is to increase public access to the Internet and give
Texas librarians the opportunity to use the Internet as a research and learning tool.
The TIF Library Advisory Subcommittee, appointed by the TIF Libraries and
Telemedicine Committee chaired by board member John Collins, was instrumental in
developing this grant initiative so that we could best meet the needs of our library
constituents. The Advisory Subcommittee is comprised of representatives of all types of
libraries from across the state and solicited input from librarians statewide in preparing
the grant program guidelines. Additionally, the Texas State Library and Archives
Commission has provided staff assistance and input throughout the grant development
process.
I encourage you to read the enclosed application to see if you are eligible to apply for this
grant initiative. Future grant programs will address other needs of the library community
as well as provide opportunities for collaborative community network development.
We look forward to working with you. Your efforts are making Texas a better place to
live and work.
Enclosure
