ORDINANCE 1997- 71 <br /> <br />'- <br />i( <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, RECLASSIFYING ONE POLICE OFFICER POSITION <br />TO A CORPORAL POSITION IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN <br />ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 2.373 OF THE SAN MARCOS CITY CODE <br />AND SECTION 143.021 OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE; <br />AMENDING THE TABLE OF POLICE POSITIONS MAINTAINED IN THE <br />CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE TO REFLECT THIS RECLASSIFICATION <br />AND TO INCLUDE CHANGES MADE IN THE 1997-98 BUDGET; AND <br />INCLUDING PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. One police officer position in the Police Department is reclassified to <br />a corporal position in accordance with Section 2.373 of the San Marcos City Code and <br />Section 143.021 of the Texas Local Government Code. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. The table of positions for each Civil Service Classification in the Police <br />and Fire Departments kept on file in the City Secretary's office is amended to read as <br />follows to reflect the reclassification made in Section 1 above, and to include two police <br />officer positions in the 1997-98 Budget: <br /> <br />Classification Number of Positions <br /> <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />Police Officer (including trainees) 35 <br />Police Corporal 19 <br />Police Sergeant 9 <br />Police Captain 4 <br />Assistant Chief of Police 1 <br /> <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />Firefighters (including trainees) 9 <br />Driver/Engineer 12 <br />Fire Lieutenant 6 <br />Fire Captain 3 <br />Assistant Fire Chief 1 <br /> <br />SECTION 3. The 1997-98 Budget of the City of San Marcos is amended as shown <br />on the attached Exhibit A in order to reflect the reclassification made in Section 1 above. <br /> <br />SECTION 4. If any word, phrase, clause, sentence, or paragraph of this ordinance <br />is held to be unconstitutional or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the other <br />provisions of this ordinance will continue in force if they can be given effect without the <br />invalid portion. <br /> <br />SECTION 5. All ordinances and resolutions or parts of ordinances or resolutions in <br />conflict with this ordinance are repealed. <br /> <br />SECTION 6. This Ordinance will take effect 10 days after the date of its final <br />passage, and the City Secretary will publish notice of its adoption in a newspaper of <br />general circulation in the City. <br /> <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED on first reading November 10, 1997. <br />PASSED AND APPROVED on second reading November 24, 1997. <br />
