Chapter 2 Sector Two Today
Development Services Department provided an current count of the housing stock. An
assumption of 98% occupancy was used.
The population estimate was derived by multiplying the current housing stock (owner
occupied and renter occupied units) by the occup~cy rate (98%), producing as estimate
of occupied housing units for each housing type. These were then multiplied by the
average household size (2.17 persons for renter occupied units and 2.91 for owner
occupied units) and added together to estimate current population for the sector as of
January 1, 1997.
The current population of Sector Two is estimated to be 2,854 people. Sector One
contains 8% of San Marcos' population.
2-13
