<br /> 146 <br /> RESOLUTION 1996- 157R <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING LEGISLATION FOR THE <br /> CREATION OF A COMMUTER RAIL DISTRICT WITHIN THE IH-35 <br /> CORRIDOR; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />RECITALS: <br />- <br />1. Current federal legislation (Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act) <br />stresses intermodalism and cooperation among transportation agencies and affected <br />municipalities and counties. <br />2. Transportation agencies and communities within the Central Texas Region are <br />considering the creation of a commuter rail system to enhance mobility, improve air quality <br />and reduce traffic congestion, and conserve natural resources. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> Part 1. The City of San Marcos supports the creation, by the Texas State <br />Legislature of a Commuter Rail District to serve as the governing body for commuter rail <br /> ~ <br />issues along the IH-35 Corridor. <br /> PART 2.
