22
RESOLUTION 1995-44 R
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, EXPRESSING THE CITY'S
SUPPORT FOR THE PROPOSED LOOP/RAIL RELOCATION
PROJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
RECITALS:
1. The Planning and Zoning Commission has unanimously recommended that the City
Council adopt a resolution of support for the proposed Loop/Rail Relocation project,
because it offers a comprehensive solution to many of the transportation problems that
exist in San Marcos.
2. As San Marcos continues to grow, our traffic problems will only grow worse unless
we address a number of transportation issues that include several highly congested
intersections, increasing through traffic in our historic neighborhoods, and continued
problems at all at-grade railroad crossings in the city.
3. The Loop/Rail Relocation proposal addresses all of these concerns by removing the
railroads from the center of the city, thereby allowing the future construction of reliever
arterial roads where railroads rights-of-way currently exist. <
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS:
PART 1. That the City of San Marcos supports the San Marcos Loop/Rail
Relocation Project.
PART 2. That in the event the San Marcos Loop/Rail Relocation Project is unable
to proceed, the City of San Marcos continues in its support of a railroad overpass as a
priority in the Transportation Improvement Prog(am listing.
PART 3. That the City Secretary, Janis K. Womack, is directed to forward a copy
of this resolution to the Texas Transportation Commission for inclusion of the project on the
Transportation Improvement Program listing.
PART 4. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately from
and after its passage.
ADOPTED this 27tlclay ofFebrua;¡:-t995.
~r~-~
Mayor
c4l ~ )
/~,< . .. /}';(;/,< ~
Jánls K.
